Revive La Música Donates Instruments to Musical Educational Programs

Leaders of 27 musical educational programs of schools and nonprofit organizations recently received more than 130 musical instruments thanks to the Revive La Música program led by Fundación Banco Popular and Luis A. Ferré Foundation. The initiative continued to support schools and non-profits whose music education programs persisted through the pandemic and continued to impact their students.

“We are extremely pleased to resume this initiative together with the Luis A. Ferré Foundation. We are coming from a year full of challenges, but we look to the future with optimism and are committed to promoting education as a tool for our students’ success,” said Beatriz Polhamus, executive director of Fundación Banco Popular.

The Revive La Música initiative began in 2006, as part of a collaboration between Fundación Banco Popular and Luis A. Ferré Foundation. Its mission has always focused on promoting music education in schools and communities by donating instruments and creating spaces for students to perform music with renowned artists and musicians in Puerto Rico. Over 2,000 students have benefited from the more than 1,900 instruments donated to different music programs in schools and nonprofit organizations so far.

Schools and organizations supported this year are located throughout the island in the following municipalities: San Juan, Ponce, Vega Alta, Vega Baja, Barceloneta, Maricao, Cayey, Hormigueros, Lares, Utuado, Juncos, Orocovis, Culebra, San Sebastián, Juana Díaz, Humacao, San Lorenzo, Loíza, and Carolina.

Sonia Mauriello, founder of Taller Triole Ta in San Juan, commented on the value and impact music has on the lives of the students served by her organization: “I work with special needs children and I use musical instruments as a tool to address their deficiencies. Through music we can work on physical, sensory, and social aspects.”

María Luisa Ferré Rangel, president of the Luis A. Ferré Foundation’s Board of Trustees, said: “Music is a tool that can serve as a bridge for young people to develop and strengthen their abilities to the fullest. We are very excited to be part of Revive La Música because, through this initiative, we contribute to giving talented young people access to resources and tools that will help them develop their career in the arts.”
